CURRENTS History

CURRENTS Conference Impacting Health Care for 35 Years
Started as a “workshop at the beach,” CURRENTS has always had the same focus: Providing educational content that promotes optimum patient care. MED-ED CEO Pam Allen’s vision for CURRENTS was to create an atmosphere that promotes learning as well as easy access to staff and speakers. This type of relationship-building was demonstrated in 2008 in New Orleans, when CURRENTS included a community outreach with the help of then-mayor Ray Nagin. Speakers and attendees provided free screenings for residents of the 4th Ward, who were still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The goal of CURRENTS has always been to bring healthcare providers together in a welcoming and fun environment and to renew the pledge to improve patient care.
